Under the premise of "know your enemy," I occasionally check out The Huffington Post to see what's going on there. Today I ran across a column I felt I had to comment on and ended up in a little bit of a discussion with some other readers. Was kind of fun. You can read the thread below, or check it out with the original column here: Iraq Crisis Threatens Bush-Petraeus "Surge" Strategy As Bankrupt

Mr. Hayden, If you hold such disdain for the United States and for those of us who stand at her gates, why don't you just leave? Take another trip to visit some communist outpost and stay. I'm sure they'd be glad to have you. And bring your ex.
If you have nothing constructive to add to your bile, please stay silent. For everyone's sake, at least voluntarily relegate yourself to obscure references in cartoon sitcoms.

If you are against freedom of speech maybe you are the one who should find another country that suits your viewpoint.

I'm all for freedom of speech, that's why I wear the uniform I do. Quite honestly, I'm just fed up with hearing seemingly educated people like Hayden and his ilk blathering on about how much they hate what's going on without offering any constructive suggestions. Meanwhile, his viralic dissent does nothing but encourage an enemy who would make no distinction between killing him and me. They know they must simply be patient and soon enough, those with less intestinal fortitude and other such sympathizers will eventually allow them to have the run of the playground.

Rule Of Law
I hate to tell you this, since it would probably piss John Bruhns off, put you, sir, are a brainwashed tool. You fight a war Bush tells you to, an enemy he says you should fight. You do not defend the American People, or what WE stand for. You are doing a job, like working at the bank, you just do it with a gun in your hand. And that gun is being used to protect the business interests of multinational companies that have NO loyalty to America! You swore an oath to defend the Constitution--Not to your political masters. And next week when they drum up another conflict, Iran, Venezuela, China maybe, you'll believe the bs they feed you, just like you did this one. The corporate machine runs on the willingness of fools like you to die for them, still believing you are serving your country. Those Muslims don't hate me, or my neighbors. They hate you. You want the war and terrorism to end, I'll give you the answer Hayden can't or won't---Get the hell out of the Middle East! Roll the price of oil back to before Bush invaded Iraq! Buy it on the open market without an army being necessary to threaten any of those countries. You do realized that Jews and Muslims once lived in peace in that region? If they could, we can.

You, too, sir, seem to have an inordinate amount of disdain for the military. But that's OK, we don't mind. We don't do this so that you'll like us, we do it because the majority of people don't have what it takes, we do it so you don't have to. I will, however, invite you to come work at my "bank" for a few days.
It sounds as though you've undergone a bit of brainwashing yourself, to wit: Who said anything about Muslims? Islamic radicals do hate you and your neighbor and would make no distinction between killing you in your bed and me with a gun in my hand. Understand that.
If you understand that then you will understand how, in carrying out my oath to defend "against all enemies, foreign and domestic," it is the domestic enemy that is the most insidious. Those who, knowingly or otherwise, encourage the enemy.
Understand that, too. Your words have the ability to make our enemy feel better about his chances of getting a chance to kill you.

Well if cdhphoto gets the Huffpost award, Rule of Law should get something like the American's award.Cheney and the Minion's success in blurring the delienation of the americans and those who have mastered them, has the funeral, fuel and revisionist industries BOOMING.cdhphoto should take a picture of the Geneva Accords, or maybe one of the constitution before and then after the Cheney administration, or 4,000 pennies(what a metaphore). A good soldier relies on single focus, so he has met his calling and should nevertheless be thanked for his service. However, he should make a goal of a balanced discussion and give them a try out.

Since you are clearly Anti-American you should leave, sir. Anyone who supports the occupation supports the bankruptcy of our Republic and ipso facto is Anti-American.

I'm Anti-American. That's rich. Thanks for clearing that up for me though. I just wish you had done so earlier, I could have done something different for the last 18 years. I am anti-idiocy. And idiocy does not follow party lines. You have no idea what I do or do not support. I'm in a good mood though so I'll tell you. I support my brothers and sisters who get shot at. I support the families of those who have died wearing our country's uniform. I support every man and woman who puts on a uniform and takes an oath to defend, with their life if necessary, your right to declare your ignorance in public.

"Stand at her gates?" Honestly, where do you warons come up with this garbage? You people are living in a fantasy born out of crappy 80s movies like "Red Dawn." Wake up, already.

Waron. That's clever. Hope you don't mind if I steal that one. You're right, I'm a bloodthirsty killer who goes to sleep each night dreaming of my next chance to shoot something. If you had even the remotest inkling of what you're talking about you might curb your knee-jerk reactions. And you missed the reference, I was going for "A few Good Men."

". And you missed the reference, I was going for "A few Good Men."
And let us guess--You thought the Jack Nicholson character was the hero in that film, right?

There were three "hero" characters in that movie. Those played by Nicholson and Sutherland for doing everything they believed necessary to ensure their unit was ready to fight should the need arise, and that played by Cruise for standing up and chasing down an illegal action against what was meant to be insurmountable odds.

Montana: Have guns, will secede
It seems as though the good people of Montana are finally getting fed up with the liberal pantywaists in D.C. who are trying to destroy the second amendment to our constitution. (District of Columbia v. Heller)
Thirty-nine of Montana’s elected officials recently signed a resolution which says that if the Supreme Court rules against the individual right of gun ownership, the United States would be in breach of contract, giving their state grounds for leaving the union.
In 1889, when Montana signed its contract of statehood with the United States, one of the conditions was that the federal government agreed that individuals had the right to keep and bear arms. [From the Montana Constitution of 1889: "Right to bear arms. The right of any person to keep or bear arms in defense of his own home, person, and property, or in aid of the civil power when thereto legally summoned, shall not be called in question, but nothing herein contained shall be held to permit the carrying of concealed weapons."] One of the dimwitted arguments in the Heller case is that firearm ownership is just a state or collective right, not a right of the individual. This leans weakly upon the argument that the rights spelled in the second amendment refer solely to the right of the states to build and maintain militia.
Montana Secretary of State Brad Johnson had this to say, “The U.S. would do well to keep its contractual promises to the states that the Second Amendment secures an individual right now as it did upon execution of the statehood contract.” Good for you, Brad.

One way
I bought a webcam yesterday. Just finished installing it (plugging it in) and some pretty cool software that will let me talk to people face to face via the computer. More interesting though is that I don't know anyone else who uses the same service so right now I can only talk to myself. I'm getting good at it.
